This is a cooking activity where children bake cookies in shapes. This teaches them about shapes, measurements and sorting.
What you will need:
- Basic cookie dough
- Different shaped cookie cutters
This is a hit with any age because, not only do the children get to interact and learn with you, they also get a tasty treat at the end.
You can make basic cookie dough for this activity, or you can buy pre-made cookie dough at the supermarket.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface and let your child press out shapes using a variety of different shaped cookie cutters. Talk to your child about the shapes. For instance, discuss the difference between the round cookie and the triangular one. Talk about the number of sides and sizes.
You can also do this activity with playdough, or a savoury scone or biscuit dough, if you would prefer to avoid the sweet stuff.
