This game can be modified for all ages and stages of development. It is a great game for learning about distance, improving language skills and helping with instruction comprehension.
Hide an object (the ‘hot potato’) in a room. Ask your child to look for the hot potato, pretending it is hot.
When the child is far away from it, the object is ‘icy, freezing cold’. However as they search for it and start getting close, tell them that they are getting ‘warmer’. As they begin closing in on the object, give them directions such as ‘hotter, hotter, super hot … burning’.
When they finally discover it, they have found the hot potato and it is their turn to hide it.
