Fun in the bath

Three rubber ducks
Early years Birth to 5 years

Bath time can be a great time to interact with your child. Here are some educational bath activities to get you started.

Old MacDonald’s Bath

Buy some cheap plastic farm animals to use in the bath. Change the words of ‘Old MacDonald’ slightly to make it, ‘Old MacDonald had a bath, E-I-E-I-O’. Ask your child to find each animal when they hear it in the song.

Mother Duck

Use rubber duckies and sing this old favourite:

Five little ducks went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
but only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
but only three little ducks came back.

Three little ducks went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
but only two little ducks came back.

Two little ducks went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
but only one little duck came back.

One little duck went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
but none of those little ducks came back.

Mother duck she went out one day,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, ‘Quack, quack, quack, quack’,
and all of those little ducks came back.

Heads and shoulders, knees and toes

While your child is seated in the bath, encourage them to place both hands on the different parts of their body as each one is mentioned. On the second time round, speed up, and get faster with each verse.

Heads and shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Heads and shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
And eyes, and ears, and mouth and nose,
Heads and shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
