Connecting with your teen’s teachers can help you gain a better understanding of the work your teen does at school and what is expected of them. It will also help teachers to get to know your teen better.
Here are some tips:
- Introduce yourself at the beginning of the year and let the teachers know you are available to discuss your teen’s progress.
- Participate in parent–teacher nights and school events.
- If you have any concerns, make sure you raise them with your teen’s teacher in an appropriate way. Some teachers are happy to be contacted directly by email, others prefer you to make an appointment via the school reception. Find out what suits the teachers best before you make contact.
- Contacting your teen’s teacher doesn’t have to be motivated by a concern. Teachers will also be pleased to hear about the positive changes you are seeing in your teen and their learning.
