Do you have a child in primary school? Are you looking for things you can do to help your child with their literacy and numeracy skills? You’re in luck!  Learning Potential Resources is packed full of great ideas and activities – all linked to the Australian Curriculum.

What is Learning Potential Resources?

Learning Potential Resources is a website for primary school parents that shows you how to help your child practise literacy and numeracy skills at home.

The website focuses on the literacy and numeracy skills in the Australian Curriculum, so you can target your child’s specific learning needs. All the activities on Learning Potential Resources are free to use, and complement the tips and ideas you find on Learning Potential.

What’s available on Learning Potential Resources?

Learning Potential Resources has three main sections:

  • Everyday ideas – easy ways to build in some literacy and numeracy practise when you are with your child – whether you’re watching TV, watering the garden or walking the dog
  • Practise together – things you can do together to work on specific literacy or numeracy skills in the Australian Curriculum
  • Practise online – games and videos that reinforce these skills.

There’s plenty of content for Foundation, Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6, with links to the Australian Curriculum parent guides for more information.

Here are just a few examples of what you’ll find:

  • Alphabet and shape fun has great ideas for using magazines to practise letters, shapes and numbers (target: Foundation)
  • Sowing Seeds shows you how to plant some literacy and maths skills while you’re in the garden with your child (target: Years 1-2)
  • Wonderful words and silly sentences shows how to have fun with language using interesting words (target: Years 3-4)
  • Extreme Numbers gives ways to help your child master numbers of more than five digits (target: Years 5-6).
