Me and my art!

School students creating a painting
Primary school 4-10 years

A child gains confidence through praise and positivity. This exercise will highlight your child’s positive attributes to help instil a sense of self and create a great piece of art for their bedroom.

What you will need:

  • A large, colourful piece of cardboard
  • Paper, glitter, stickers, paints, glue, felt-tipped pens
  • Photos of your child

Method:

  • Stick a picture of your child in the middle of the cardboard.
  • Write theme words around the picture, such as:
    • My name is …
    • My favourite hobbies are …
    • The people in my family are …
    • My favourite foods are …
    • My friends are …
    • I’m very proud I can …
    • My pets are …
    • My birthday is …
  • Using the craft supplies, ask your child to fill in their chart however they like. They might write words or draw pictures to match the themes. Encourage them to be as creative as possible.
  • Once it’s completed, hang it in their bedroom or on the refrigerator for all to see and admire!
