There is no right or wrong time to study. It really depends on whether your child is a morning person or a night person, and what works best for their schedule. There are benefits to studying at either end of the day.
The benefits of your child studying in the morning or during the day—clearly most likely on weekends:
- Their mind and body has rested, so they will have more energy and better concentration.
- In daytime, they can study with natural light so their eyes will not get as tired.
- After having a nutritious breakfast, they will have plenty of energy to fuel their brain and help them study.
- During the day on weekends, there is more chance they will be able to study with their peers.
- If they study during the day, it will free up the evening for leisure time.
The benefits of your child studying in the afternoon/evening—could be any day of the week that suits:
- Sometimes evenings are quieter than daytime and there are fewer distractions, such as noise from siblings or telephones.
- Evening study can free up the day for other activities.
- Some people find they are more likely to retain information by studying prior to going to bed.
Do not sacrifice sleep
Regardless of what time your child finds it beneficial to learn, it is vital they do not sacrifice sleep to accommodate their study. Teens, in particular, require about eight to 10 hours of sleep per night in order to perform at their best.
